When I returned to work from bed rest/maternity leave I came back to a hot mess when it came to staffing. I was suppose to only work two 12 hour shifts a week but from December-May we had to pick up an extra 12 hour shift every other week. Can you say not fun! I hated leaving the little man and I was afraid that extra day would be when he decided to do a new thing. I kept telling myself it will get better, just give it sometime. But it did not get better just worse, so the job hunt began!
I was very picky with my wants when it came to a new position.
1. It had to be days.
2. It had to be off the floor. (Ex: pre/post op, surgery)
3. It had to be either the same amount or less weekends/holidays
4. I preferred something in the chs network so I wouldn't loose my 11years with the company
5. It had to be a .5 or .6 if you don't work in a hospital that means 20-24 hrs a week-just enough to keep the insurance :)
I felt like I put my transfer request in for about 6 different jobs! Most of the time I would get an instant reject email, meaning the position was already filled. I finally got an interview which went really well but ended up being a no go. I had another interview lined up but they changed the point status to a .7, I told them no thank you! I was beginning to feel like I was going to be stuck in my old position with no way out! I decided it was time to apply for a full time positions with the hope of eventually reducing my hours. I had an interview with a call back to job shadow at the end of June. The end of July was creeping up with no yes or no from them. Trust me I was staying in contact, in a non annoying way of course!
As I was starting to become depressed (seriously ask Jeremy!) a job opened up close by, as in 5 minutes from home. The issue was it was going to be 4 days a week, ugh! I told Jeremy I am just going to go for it. After about 2 weeks with no call for an interview I assumed the filled the position but they called me. I talked with the supervisor for awhile and let her know that I really didn't want to work more than 3 days a week. I told I was very interested anyways and would like to proceed with the interview. The day of the interview I had to call her to see where I was suppose to go for the interview, lol! However during the phone call she told she was able to get a .6 position approved plus the .8 that I had applied for. Long story short I went in for the interview an hour after I got home she called me with the job offer for 3 days a week and 8 hour shifts!
What I learned from this process:
When god gives you a "no," give him a "thank you." He was protecting you from less than his best!
