Keep on Keepin' on

My Grandpa was none for his rhyming he is something he wrote after they had a major barn fire in the '60's. Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season.

When disaster strikes at your house, it is more real to you than any atom bomb,

and you have a right to wonder what keeps you keeping on.

Here is where I claim to be something of a pro!

And these four things I know …

If you have friends and neighbors (and you have them if you are one);

and if your wife and kids still love you;

and if your faith in God above you is firm and strong;

and if your credit is good – that is all you need to keep you keeping on.

Someday you will find that the clouds will have a silver lining.

The day will be fair and the sun a shining.

And in your heart you will have a song,

because instead of sittin’ and quittin’, these things keep you keeping on!

Update!

(photo taken by moments by pam)

So its been awhile since I have posted, I guess working full-time and going to school part-time willdo that to a person!! My last post was one step past being absolutely depressing.

Here is some good news:

-My parents are back together
-We had a slight cancer scare but test results came back benign(insert wiping the sweat of forehead)
-I am on a much needed Christmas break :)
-Good friends of our's found out they are pregnant after trying for years
-I realized lastnight that at this time next year I should be done with school, never thought I would see the light at the end of the tunnel!!

Hope everyone is having a great start to the holiday season!!

sometimes i don't if i should cry or scream...

so to say this semester has been rough could be considered an understatement.

-they(the school) 'forgot' about the part-timer's when they put the fall schedule together. which means we are stuck taking the full-time schedule--not fun! the upside is i will be done with two of my classes the second week of Oct and my clinical will be done the first week of Nov which means i will have a llllloooonnngggggg much needed break
-working full-time and i have a full school load is going to send me to a facility with a padded room. upside i have the best husband who will do things around the house especially if he wants clean clothes :) no seriously he has been wonderful and i could not get through my crazy life without him(or my faith)
-my parents have been separated since i don't even know Mayish?? yes they still live in the same house and yes it has been difficult which could also be considered as an understatement. yes there are times when i just want to yell at both of them and say you are giving up on 30+ years of marriage. the hardest part is one does not want ti be divorced and the other one does--what do you say??

no pity party here just ready for the 3rd week of Oct!!!! and the 2nd week of Nov!!

i realize this is all in lower-case and it will stay that way :)

OBX II

This place is getting a lot of attention in the news right now because of Irene. I am so glad we made it there 2 weeks ago it is one of my favorite vacation spots and it had been about 10 years since I had been there (and Jeremy had never been there before). Praying for my family that lives on the east coast, including my brother and his family they live just outside of NYC in CT.

Riding the mine cart on the way up to mini golf.

If you look close you can see Jeremy and Damion resting after they ran up one of the dunes.

There were about 50+ Schriver's at OBX this week, this is my immediate family.

my grandpa

my grandpa passed away on sunday. i think he has the best written obituary but when you live to 96 you deserve the best.

Henry H. Schriver, 96
The father of three local men, Henry Haley Schriver, 96, of Grafton, Ohio died on March 27, 2011, following a short illness.
Thousands knew him as the “Farmer Philosopher” who spoke in rhyme about the values of farming and cooperation. His large family knew him as a devoted husband, energetic dad, and delightful grandpa to several generations. Mr. Schriver was admired worldwide for his tireless volunteering, community leadership, sense of humor, Christian faith and quiet generosity.
But first and foremost, he was a farmer. Even this past winter, wearing his familiar bib overalls and helped by family, he continued to visit and feed his beloved cows.
When he was 47, he combined three of his favorite subjects into a poetic presentation called “Cows, Kids and Co-ops”. He gave variations of that speech in rhyme thousands of times to groups all over the country about being leaders in their communities. Mr. Schriver’s creative use of poetry and flip charts launched a second career in public speaking that was filmed in 1965 by the American Institute of Cooperation and the U. S. Department of Agriculture. The hugely successful film was later used by the U.S. State Department to help advance agricultural education programs throughout the world.
Mr. Schriver’s passion for educating other farmers about cooperatives led to international trips to Taiwan as a guest of their government, and to Russia as part of a volunteer group. At the state level, he served in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1967-1968, working on committees for agriculture, conservation, pollution, safety and education.
Locally, he was very active in many organizations, including Easter Seals, 4-H, FFA and Farm Bureau. As President of Belden School Board, he was instrumental in the creation of the Midview School District. He was also a driving force in the formation of Lorain County Soil and Water Conservation District, the founding of Lorain County Community College, and the establishment of the Grafton Township Fire Department.
Aside from his many local and national honors, awards and memberships, Mr. Schriver was a practical man who brought out the best in people and constantly and deliberately sought ways to help others improve their own lives. His farm was a demonstration site for soil conservation practices, and lots of kids found their first jobs picking apples or strawberries on the family farm. In 1965, he organized 4-H and FFA members to clean up Grafton Township crop fields in time for planting after the devastating Palm Sunday tornado.
Mr. Schriver was a very active and life-long member of Belden United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, Lay Leader and Trustee for many years.
Born in Belden in 1914, he lived his whole life in that area. Mr. Schriver graduated from Belden High School, and then earned his B.Sc. in Agriculture from The Ohio State University in 1937. A year later, he married his college sweetheart, Dorothy Ellen Langshaw. Together, they raised eleven children on their dairy and fruit farm. They had been married 63 years when she died in 2001.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Sarah Schriver; sisters Elsie Schriver, Mary Frances Mills and Sarah Bernice Diedrick; grandson Steve Schriver and daughter-in-law Pat Schriver.
Survivors include his sister Martha Jane Williams; sons Jim (Jayne) of Montpelier, Bill (Dee), Don (Jane), Hiro (who joined the family in 1964 as an exchange student from Japan, wife Marisha), Paul (Kelli) of Montpelier, Larry (Kathy), Randy (Kathy) of Bluffton, Ted (Tracy), Ken (Mary); daughters Carol (Rodger) Carpenter, Sally (Jim) Kocher, Ellen (Mark) Stephenson; 40 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
His body was donated to Case Western Reserve University for use in medical education.
Friends may call at Belden United Methodist Church commencing at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 9, 2011. The memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Belden United Methodist Church, 36130 State Route 303, Grafton, Ohio 44044; or to Easter Seals Northern Ohio, 41641 North Ridge Road, Suite D, Elyria, Ohio 44035; or to Lorain County 4-H Endowment Fund, payable to “The Ohio State University/Fund #604280”, OSU Extension/ Lorain County, 42110 Russia Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035; or to New Life Hospice, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.

Love is not a place
To come and go as we please
It's a house we in enter in
And then commit to never leave
So lock the door behind you
Throw away the key
We'll work it out together
Let it bring us to our knees

Love is a shelter in a raging storm
Love is peace in the middle of a war
If we try to leave may God send angels to guard the door
No, love is not a fight but its something worth figthing for

the madness starts up again :(

So school starts up this week :( I am hoping for this semester to go a little smoother than the last!!!

Does anyone have any new year's resolutions???

Mine are:

1. Jeremy told me that once we have a certain $$$$$ in our savings that I can get the couch I have been eyeing for our front room. So my brain is in saving mood!!
2. I am doing the Wells Co. Weigh-in with my best friend from high school. I am hoping to loose 5lbs(I know its not much of a goal) and to get more toned. We were planning to go on a big family beach trip with my side of the family but it sounds like my school schedule is going to make it a negative for the two of us :(
